Fontane

Fontane is a high yielding early maincrop variety suitable for the processing market.

The tuber shape is oval to oval long and the eyes are shallow. Tuber number is high and uniform. Fontane is the leading variety in Europe, suitable for flake and french fries production. With low sugar content, only very low levels of Acrylamide can be detected after processing.

Suggested fertiliser treatment
Nitrogen: standard advice + 30%.
Potassium: standard advice +10%.
Phosphate: standard advice.

Plant spacing
35/45mm: 33cm (33,500 plants/Ha).
45/55mm: 40cm (27,500 plants/Ha).
Spacing figures for 90cm row width.

Herbicide sensitivity
Metribuzin (Sencorex) does not affect yield.

Fungicides
It is recommended to apply a seed treatment against Rhizoctonia.
Do not allow tuber dry matter to exceed 21% when scheduling haulm killing to prevent discolouration of the prepared product.

Harvest
The variety is susceptible to Late Blight, maintain a preventative spraying schedule until all haulm is dead.

Storage
Suitable for medium term storage.
